Currently I am a PhD student at the Institute of
Ecology (UGA). My major advisor is Dr. Amy Rosemond. I also work
closely with Dr. Craig Layman (adjunct advisor, Florida International
University). I have been working with Dr. Layman for the past year studying foodweb structure and dynamics in Bahamian mangrove estuaries. Through my research I am also collaborating with the nonprofit organization,
Friends of the Environment Abaco, located on the Bahamian island where I
conduct my field studies. I am very
interested in community education on conservation matters and through
collaboration with such groups I am able to incorporate outreach activities
into my research. I am a partner in the Adopt a Fish Adopt a School program. Through this program Dr. Layman has established a basis to
continue our study of fish movement within and between estuarine environments
(using radio telemetry) while integrating community educational outreach. In this program private parties donate the money for a class to purchase a radio
transmitter that we use within the context of our study. The class then becomes the "owner" of these
fish and is able to track the movement of the fish through the Adopt a Fish
website (see link).
